Intro to Penetration Testing
Abstract: This immersive two-day course will cover the fundamentals of penetration testing in modern network environments. The course is very hands on, with multiple labs reinforcing each section, and culminates with a capture the flag exercise to validate what the students have learned.
Sections covered will include:
- Methodology of penetration testing and red teaming
- Getting to know your attack platform
- Client-side exploitation
- Scanning & enumeration
- Remote exploitation
- Lateral movement
- Persistence methods
- Further learning & breaking into the industry
- Culmination Exercise (CTF)
Students will need a laptop capable of running multiple VMs, and a clean install of Kali Linux. All other materials will be provided by the instructor. Familiarity with the Windows and/or Linux command line is preferred, but not required.
Bio: Andrew Cole is a security researcher who has worked in the information security field for over a decade. In a past life he was a Military Intelligence Systems Maintainer/Integrator, a Cryptologic Network Warfare Specialist, and Journeyman Interactive Operator for the US Army. He currently works for Chiron Technology Services’ Information Operations Team as a Computer Network Exploitation (CNE) instructor and content developer, and has previously spoken at multiple B-Sides, NolaCon, and the National Security Agency.
